Legal Aid Council Launches Website

Justice Minister, Hon. Delroy Chuck, says the Legal Aid Council website will create greater access to quality legal services for all Jamaicans.

Addressing the website’s launch on Wednesday (September 4) at the Ministry’s Constant Spring Road offices in Kingston, the Minister said this is a technological leap for the Legal Aid Council, and will have a profound impact on the ordinary people of Jamaica who want to access critical information for quality legal representation.

Legal Aid Council to Launch Website

The Legal Aid Council (LAC) will be launching its first official website on September 4, to increase citizens’ access to information and services provided by the Council.

“The LAC is seeking to expand its reach across the length and breadth of Jamaica, so with our Justice Mobile Unit and our new website the public will have access to updated information on how to make use of our services,” Executive Director of the Legal Aid Council, Hugh Faulkner, told JIS News.

Legal Aid Council Provides Help For 107 Mentally Ill Persons

The Legal Aid Council (LAC) has provided legal representation for 107 mentally ill persons, within the last year.

Speaking with JIS News, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Council, Hugh Faulkner, says his organisation was only able to act, because a family member came forward to receive these individuals.

Legal Aid Council Stages Justice Fair In Savanna-La-Mar Friday

The Legal Aid Council (LAJ) is taking its quarterly Justice Fair to Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Friday (July 26).

The event will be held at Independence Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Executive Director of the LAC, Hugh Faulkner, told JIS News that residents will be able to access legal services and advice on a range of matters.

Legal Aid Council Provides Help for 2,484 Cases

Legal assistance was provided for 2,484 cases in the Parish Courts during the 2018/2019 Fiscal Year by the Legal Aid Council.

This represents a 17.3 per cent increase in Legal Aid Services in the Parish Courts from the previous Fiscal Year.

This was disclosed by Minister of Justice, Hon. Delroy Chuck, during his contribution to the 2019/20 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on May 21.
