The Legal Aid Council (LAC) is a statutory entity under the aegis of the Ministry of Justice. The Council’s mandate is to administer an effective legal aid system in Jamaica.

The Legal Aid Council provides legal aid in criminal matters, to persons of small or moderate means.  The Kingston Legal Aid Clinic and the Montego Bay Legal Aid Clinic provides legal aid for civil matters, to persons of small or moderate means.
